the usedReprise Records artist, The Used, have announced the release of The Beginning: The Used Music Video Collection. The limited edition DVD contains the complete archives of The Used’s professional music videos, in chronological order. The Beginning will be available only at www.theused.net starting September 22, 2009.

The Used are out now supporting the release of their fourth studio album, Artwork, which is in stores now. After a European run they will return home to begin a nationwide headlining fall tour. The month-long run kicks off October 9th in Las Vegas, NV and runs through November 13th in Seattle, WA. The Almost and Drive A will be supporting.

Critical acclaim for the Matt Squire-produced Artwork has been effusive. Outburn (which the band currently graces the cover of) praised its "humbling ability to sound scrappy and raw while being perfectly polished and huge," while Alternative Press states "The Used have delivered not only the definitive album of their career but arguably one of the best records you'll hear in 2009. 4 ½ stars."

The band’s legions of fans are responding as well. The first single, "Blood On My Hands" premiered on iTunes with over 5k downloads in the first day, the highest digital debut in the band's history. The video for the song debuted on MySpace and shot directly to the #1 spot, with 200,00 views in the first 24 hours. The Used performed “Blood On My Hands” to a sold out crowd on Jimmy Kimmel Live September 11, 2009.

The Used have announced the video premiere of their new song “Blood On My Hands.” The special Band Cut will debut today exclusively on MySpace. “Blood On My Hands” is the first single off the Orem, Utah band’s new album Artwork, which will be released on Reprise Records on September 1, 2009.

The video, directed by Lisa Mann, was shot at Linda Vista Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, and is centered on the narrative of front man Bert McCracken’s obsession with a serial killer in a small town. Intercut with performance, the twisting narrative follows Bert’s increasing rage as he tracks the killer…or maybe a victim…and the line between hunter and hunted becomes blurred.

Starting today, MySpace and TheUsed.net will be exclusively streaming the Band Cut of the “Blood On My Hands” video, which features extra scenes and is unwavering in its intensity. The song itself, which guitarist Quinn Allman describes as the song that “sums up everything about The Used,” is confined chaos, brutally thrashing one moment and proffering a pop-driven, sing-along chorus the next. It premiered on iTunes June 30th and sold over 5k downloads in the first day and over 12k in the first week, the highest digital debut ever for the band.

The Used have announced a limited-edition preorder of their new album Artwork. The exclusive package, of which only 3000 were made, will be available starting today, July 21, 2009 exclusively on www.theused.net. Artwork will be released on Reprise Records on September 1, 2009.

The CD/DVD package contains the full Artwork album, a DVD with behind the scenes footage, a 20-page expanded booklet, an exclusive Artwork t-shirt and a limited edition signed 18x24 band poster. It also includes two never before heard exclusive b-sides: “In A Needle” and “On the Cross (Save Yourself Mix).” The tracks will be digitally delivered on August 25th.

Produced by Matt Squire, Artwork is a raw collection of eleven songs that not so delicately teeter the line between being aggressively discordant and charmingly hooky. “This record is more sincere,” guitarist Quinn Allman says. “It’s got a sound more reminiscent of the first record. Lyrically, it completely engulfs you and makes you feel safe but it’s all about feeling alone and empty and knowing there’s always a light. If you’re frustrated that much it means you care that much. The music isn’t showing off. It’s just being what it is. I think the fans will appreciate all that.”

The Used Artwork limited edition preorder package can be purchased for $34.99 here.

FIRST SINGLE “BLOOD ON MY HANDS” HITS RADIO ON JULY 14th

Orem, Utah’s The Used, who have been tantalizing fans by previewing new songs during the Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left Festivals and during recent headlining dates, are proud to announce the release of their fourth studio album, entitled Artwork, on September 1, 2009. Starting July 21st a deluxe pre-order package of the release will be available only at theused.net.

Produced by Matt Squire, Artwork is a raw collection of eleven songs that not so delicately teeter the line between being aggressively discordant and charmingly hooky. The first single, “Blood On My Hands” premiered June 30th; it sold over five thousand copies in the first day and shot to #9 on the iTunes Alternative Chart. The track, which guitarist Quinn Allman describes as the song that “sums up everything about The Used” hits radio July 14th.

“Blood On My Hands” is confined chaos, brutally thrashing one moment and proffering a pop-driven, sing-along chorus the next. “Empty With You,” a track frontman Bert McCracken says is “about feeling empty and lonely but as long as you have someone who can feel lonely with you then everything’s okay,” surges with passion and gripping honesty, while “Kissing You Goodbye” balances the album’s predilection for propulsive rage with its quieter, piano-driven exploration of what it means to have someone to lean on.

“This record is more sincere,” Allman says. “It’s got a sound more reminiscent of the first record. Lyrically, it completely engulfs you and makes you feel safe but it’s all about feeling alone and empty and knowing there’s always a light. If you’re frustrated that much it means you care that much. The lyrics carry you through the record and you’re right with Bert and where he’s at. The music isn’t showing off. It’s just being what it is. I think the fans will appreciate all that.”
“This record is about coming together,” McCracken adds. “Whether it’s through positivity or negativity, it’s about coming together through anything.”

Artwork encapsulates the past eight years of this hard-touring band, which has made the rounds of Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Projekt Revolution, Give It a Name, Reading, Leeds, and Taste of Chaos. The Used have sold more than two million albums in the U.S. Their previous release, 2007’s Lies For the Liars, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200.
